It's a role-based associate certification, so it must be renewed annually via a free online assessment on Microsoft Learn. Microsoft is moving this exam to AB-400 on October 16, 2026. PL-400 registration closes that day; anyone already registered can sit PL-400 through October 30, 2026. Both exams earn the same certification.

Is PL-400 being replaced?
Yes. Registration for PL-400 closes on October 16, 2026, when AB-400 becomes the exam for this certification. Candidates already registered for PL-400 can take it through October 30, 2026. AB-400 uses four skill groups: build solutions, extend the user experience, extend the platform, and develop integrations.
