About the NBCOT certification
NBCOT administers the OTR (Occupational Therapist Registered) and COTA (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant) certification exams required for OT/OTA licensure in most U.S. jurisdictions. The OTR exam — what most people mean by 'NBCOT' — is 180 items in 4 hours: three- and four-option multiple choice plus six-option multi-select scenario sets.
The passing scaled score is 450 on a 300–600 scale. Exams follow the content outline from NBCOT's practice analysis (current outline effective January 2024). Delivery is Pearson VUE.
Who it’s for: Graduates of ACOTE-accredited OT (OTR) or OTA (COTA) programs seeking national certification for state licensure.

What score do I need on NBCOT?
OTR passing standard is a scaled 450. Raw percent correct is not published and varies by form.
How do I make an NBCOT study schedule?
Work backward from your test date in weekly blocks: eval, planning, interventions, practice management, then mixed timed sets. Keep an error log by domain, not by textbook chapter.
